In July we had 22 Grade 3 students from Madoc Public School for a hands on introduction to the game. It was a very popular time for these youngsters.

In July we gave a demonstration of Lawn Bowling to a group of American tourists who were the guests of the Madoc Seniors Club. After the demo many of the visitors tried their hand at lawn bowling, some had never seen or heard of it.

The Mixed Doubles O'Keefe trophy competition was fiercely contested betwen the 6 teams entered. The Gillies team bowled with tremendous accuracy to win the trophy, David & Pauline Hill were second and Avril & Brian Sexton were third.
The trainee Club Manager and greens keeper has been a very succesful program from his and our point of view. Adam Bailey is a Center Hastings High School student who helped us last year with the greens keeping, We have expanded his duties this year and the Department of Human Resouces Development provided a grant for his salary.
In August we had a tournament for the TWO LOONS trophy (open triples) and for the OLD BOWL trophy (Club singles). We had 16 teams vying for the TWO LOONS trophy which was won by visitors from Virginia, Ed Reynolds, his wife Kathy and Jean Colwell. They were worthy winners. This was also somethiing of an International day with Larry Peters from Australia playing for Kingston.

Brian Sexton successfully defended his title after a thrilling last end win over Pat Gillies, just the sort of ending for a tournament.
Our ladies team of Pauline Hill, Pat Gillies and Donna Greenwood won a perfect end ( a score of 9 points) in a match at the Eileen Bell Ladies Triple Tournament in Kingston on August 28th, our congratulations to this team.
The final open triples tournament for the Ray & Jim Silver cup was played on Sept 1st and was won by George Kenny's team from Kenron. This was again a successful tournament for the club as we had 16 teams playing and once again the high quality of our greens was instrumental in bringing so many teams to our tournaments. Congratulations to Dave Hill and his assistants for keeping the greens so well.
We have been very fortunate to have Pauline Hill take over the job of tournament director from Gord & Maryanne Taylor. In her first year she has done a wonderful job at keeping the tournaments running smoothly.
David Hill represented district 15 in the Ontario playoffs in Toronto and was placed 15th.
Pauline Hill was a member of an inter club team which won the Ladies Novice Triples tournament and will go on to the Provincial finals in Hanover on Sept 12th, we wish them every success.
We have one more Open Tournament planned for this year, we are initiating a Cut Throat Tornament where all the entry fees will be paid out in prize money. We may have to wait a few years until we reach our goal of 40 players, so far we have 15 players signed up from as far away as Kingston, Peterborough & Trenton.
We will hold our year end Pot Luck Lunch and General meeting on Wednesday Sept 22nd, and then we will close for the season so that we can do the necessary maintenamce to the greens.
Next year we are applying for at least one of the Play Downs for the Provincial championships to be played at our facilities.
A review of our players involvement in all tournaments and their successes
for the 1999 season.
It was with great regret that we heard of the death of Bev Keller. Bev was a loyal member of the club who served as secretary for a number of years. She will be sorely missed.
